DF.com Rebranded, Pirate Radio Countdown!

Digitalflood Pirate Radio

Digitalflood Pirate Radio

If you’re staring at this on our web site (df.com) and not from one of the many places we aggregate updates to (such as Facebook, Twitter, etc…) you can already see I’ve redone the site branding to be more “Pirate Radio” in nature. SURPRISE! If you haven’t checked out the new site, be sure to click through and see what we’ve done. You’ll notice all the pirate goodness (depsite M’Weezy’s assertions that ninjas can be beat pirates– we all know that pirates rule). I’ve been hard at work with this new df.com rebranding and it’s one of the many surprises to come over the next few weeks. We’re right now on df.com version 11.1.2 (final). I’m hoping you enjoy the new look. As always, let me know what you think.

On to the big news, DF Pirate Radio will be recording over the next few weeks and I’m looking to drop the first episode to you by Thanksgiving weekend on 11/28/09. While my arm is still pretty sore and mostly unusable, I’ve figured out ways to work around my limitations. I should be able to mix the show without a hitch. If not, it looks like some lucky cast member will be getting a crash course in DJ mixing (should be a blast). Watch for a live countdown timer to appear on the site in the next 24 hours that will countdown to go day, which is 11/28/09!

Hoist the line! Tie down the yard arm! Weigh anchor! Set sail, no quarter! ARRRRRR.

DF v11.0.6 Update

I continue to work on the site as whole with small tweaks and fixes as things crop up on the radar. We right now have no open bugs and are on df.com version 11.0.6 (final) code wise. The most recent fixes:

  • Upgraded back end web site engine code to latest WordPress engine to “harden” site against attacks and improve performance/stability.
  • All plug in modules that enable features are 100% up to date as well.
  • Implemented additional back end security checks and database configurations that improve site security while not degrading performance.
  • Optimized all page load times and database structure to speed up/maintain quick load times on all web browsers.
  • Improved search engine including result sorting for better search returns (both quicker and more relevant based results instead of sorting articles by time line from most recent to earliest). In other words, you’re more likely to find what you’re looking for quicker instead of having to read every search result (similar to how Google and Bing work).

Today marks one week since my shoulder surgery was performed. Still sore, but over all feeling about 30% of my total self again. Finally starting to have some control over my right lower arm (below the elbow). In less than a week I have my post operation follow up with my orthopedist. Hopefully the wound is healing is a good as it seems to be. Cannot wait to get the bandages off and to be able to take real showers again.

New MJ Song

In case you’ve been hiding in a cave in Afghanistan from US military forces for the last few months, I’d like to catch you up on the fact that Michael Jackson died a few weeks back. Shortly thereafter his mother was named his Executor of State and since then it’s been a pretty wild ride. There was multiple Jackson funerals, a memorial service, a few burial services, and now the latest hoopla is surrounding the 10/26/09 planned release of “This Is It”, which is Michael Jackson’s biography film. Considering how fast they put the thing together it may say something about what various people in his life saw as the inevitable end, but that may just be me making a wild guess.

With that in mind, a new Jackson song was post-haste put through production and released earlier this morning. You can find the clip on Michael Jackson’s official site (or maybe it’s more his Mom’s site with his name on it… I’m not sure how to label it at this point).  For those of you on the lazy side I’ve embedded the song below for your listen.

It’s reminiscent of Jackson’s earlier works and it’s nice to see he may have planned returning to his soul/R&B styling roots instead of the over produced pop crap that riddled his last decade of work. It’s not the most catchy tune, but as a final piece it brings things full circle back to where he started with the likes of “Off The Wall”. So I’ll give it a thumbs up and a six out of ten rating. Let me know what you think.

DF.com Mobile

I’m proud to announce we’ve updated the site so it can be displayed relatively quickly on a mobile device. Point your mobile phone or PDA to the normal http://www.digitalflood.com URL and we’ll handle the rest. As soon as the site sees a mobile browser it triggers the mobile site. If you use a normal PC or Mac web browser, the regular site comes up. And for you daring types you’ll find a link in the right hand menu that lets you override the detection settings and see whatever you want (mobile or normal mode) at any given time no matter what you’re using. Seamless. Simple. Groovy. I like it. Now you can get df.com 24/4 anywhere you can connect to the Net. Start your mobile browsing!

Countdown to Go Live

Last night I began making final preparations for df.com v11 final to go live. I finished up some final security audits and permissions checks. I also ran some final performance checks. All passed flawlessly. I’ve checked over the pages for any final typos or lay out flaws– I found none. There are no open issues reports and we made some final changes to content:

With that we appear ready for final go live on 10/7/09 barring any further issues. Thank you to everyone who gave feedback and looked over the site for me. Six months of work is about to come full head and the fruits of my labor is arguably the best web site I’ve produced to date.

Now comes the hard (and fun) part– filling it with more Pirate Radio and art for you to enjoy, as well as, the uncanny articles you’ve come to love as filler in-between.
