DF.com Returns to MySpace

All of three years ago we had a digitalflood Pirate Radio profile in the MySpace.com Music section. We had over 14,000 friends. We were routinely the number one band by views within a 20 mile radius of Warwick, NY. We had some 500 views per day of our profile. In short, we ran the joint.

The problem was MySpace was in its Golden era and unable to deal with all the traffic on the site. As such, they began hunting down the highest viewed pages that weren’t on a major label and weren’t part of MySpace Tom’s clique. With that, we were targeted, terminated, and told we violated copyright law.

Well, the gold rush is over and so are the witch hunts on MySpace. With that we have launched a brand new profile on MySpace Music and we are once again ready to run the joint. Let’s do this thing.

The new profile can be found at: http://www.myspace.com/djdigitalflood

DF.com V11.0 Final Released

I’m happy to announce we have finalized and generally released version 11.0 final of digitalflood.com. This concludes our public Beta. Thank you again to all of you who helped out with development and gave feedback. Together we have built a product I’m very proud of. We’ll begin moving now onto other projects (including the return of digitalflood Pirate Radio) along with continuing to improve the site, as well as, add features over time. I’ve moved the code tracker to its own page (which can be found here or under the “About DF.com” sub-menu “DF.com Code Info”). And with that– it’s time to start the second decade of df.com. So it begins again anew!

Countdown to Go Live

Last night I began making final preparations for df.com v11 final to go live. I finished up some final security audits and permissions checks. I also ran some final performance checks. All passed flawlessly. I’ve checked over the pages for any final typos or lay out flaws– I found none. There are no open issues reports and we made some final changes to content:

With that we appear ready for final go live on 10/7/09 barring any further issues. Thank you to everyone who gave feedback and looked over the site for me. Six months of work is about to come full head and the fruits of my labor is arguably the best web site I’ve produced to date.

Now comes the hard (and fun) part– filling it with more Pirate Radio and art for you to enjoy, as well as, the uncanny articles you’ve come to love as filler in-between.

Surgery Scheduled

shoulder-joint-ligamentsVisited my orthopedist today. Looks like 10/14/09 will be the day of my surgery. I have a rip in the area marked to the right as the articular capsule (#2), which creates instability in the head of my humerus (the bone that makes the top portion of your arm) and allows it to pass out of the shoulder socket. We discussed therapy, but honestly with this being an ongoing issue for some four plus years my orthopedist doubts there will be any success with that sort of treatment. If it was going to heal– it would have healed already.

The good news is the surgery is pretty non-evasive and is performed in a same day surgery manner. I literally will leave the hospital a few hours after post-operation. The whole operation should be rather quick and recovery time is six to twelve weeks including therapy. That puts me at 100% by Christmas, which is nice.

Until then I will have to wear a sling for the first few weeks and limit my motion though I was told I could use a mouse within 48 hours for brief sessions (yes– I asked how long until I can blog again because I’m that much of nerd).

The success rate is pretty high and my biggest enemy would be infection. With all the pain I’ve been through over the last few years I am glad that the worst of it will be over within two months or so. I also look forward to being able to do normal things such as pick up my youngest daughter or play catch with my oldest daughter. Those thoughts alone are both keeping me focused and driven to seeing this through.

I appreciate all your kind words and thank those of you who have been sending me get well wishes through Facebook. Your thoughts and wishes are appreciated.

If I can pull it off, I’d like to squeeze out one Pirate Radio before surgery and then follow up with another show as soon as I’m feeling well enough to do so in what will most likely be early November. I’ll let you know as those plans begin to gel and be sure to keep you in the loop.

Milestone dfv11RC2

The site is pretty much finalized and with that I’d like to announce we’re at version 11 release class 2. Minor changes will occur herein to the actual web site framework with most changes being either content updates or additions, but overall development is final.

Last night we opened up comments on the Music and Visual Artwork pages. That takes care of the ability to comment throughout the site. I’m thrilled to be able to offer you the viewer a more interactive experience.

Along those lines we’ll be shifting gears over the next week or so. I’ve built a new Facebook Group profile that you’re welcome to add if you so happen to be on that social networking site. It features full integration with updates from this site so if you’re lazy like me and would rather login there to check both what’s going on there, as well as, see the latest df.com news from here you most certainly can do that.

We’re going to be doing more along the line of turning up social networking profiles and integrating them back to the main news/content on df.com over the next few days including MySpace, Pure Volume, and Twitter. More on that work will be posted as it happens. That should all be rather exciting. If you have a social network site you think we should join let us know and we’ll put it into consideration for future integration plans.

I also added the “Cliff Notes” for each df Pirate Radio season that used to be on the old site. That completes all the old Pirate Radio content and df.com content being integrated into this new site. We’ll see if we can dig up more of the classic df.com news posts, but for now the collection is pretty complete and includes everything that was on version 5-10 previously.
