RI Rabbits Go To Super Bowl!

Fireworks and Football... sweeeeeeeeeet.

Fireworks and Football... sweeeeeeeeeet.

Literally just in minutes ago, my Yahoo! Fantasy Football team the Rhode Island Rabbits are going to my league’s Super Bowl! I managed to pull off a one point win in the semi-final championship game (102.34 to 101.68) against Really Da Really during the last eight minutes of the NY Giants game. This puts me up against my arch-nemesis 5YardsOut who just won 116.42 to 111.88 against the Brooklyn Dodgers. 5YardsOut is a tough team, but you can be sure I’m going to try to pull every trick out of the bag to win this one. This is for all the carrots!

I’m sporting a 11-4 record for the entire year and going on eight straight wins so I’ve got momentum on my side. This is pretty exciting as this is the first time in the last three years I’ve been playing fantasy sports that I’m actually headed into a final championship match.

All will be said and done in one week when the points are tallied and only one team is left standing. Here’s hoping it’s mine.

Drop It One Time – DF Pirate Radio Vol. 5 Ep. 5

Deejaying - So easy even a drunk cat can do it.

Deejaying - So easy even a drunk cat can do it.

Expect the latest episode of digitalflood Pirate Radio (Volume 5 Episode 5) to show up on the df.com tomorrow (12/21/09) by 9 pm EST (if not sooner). Production is moving right along. I recorded the mix session late on Friday into very early Saturday morning. Got about 25% into post-production yesterday and should be able to wrap up the last 75% tonight. The show is a Cut Like Crack mix session and one that will recall a kinder gentler era in my DJ career. It sounds super duper like a new fangled pooper scooper. Word.

The Pirate Radio Christmas episode is right on target as well for release and will be out on 12/27/09. Production will start most likely this Sunday night or possibly Monday night.

I’m still working out details, but the last episode of the Volume 5 season should be the following show, which will be our annual Top Ten Worst Songs of the Year show. Probably showing up on 12/31/09 on df.com.

Get well wishes go out to my on hiatus co-host MC Mary @ The Disco! who hurt her shoulder doing martial arts yesterday. No, I’m not making this up. She too hurt her right shoulder like me. Her injury isn’t as bad, but still hurts like a mofo. My underlying suspicions though say she did it to try to be as cool as me. This of course concerns me because no doubt 2010 will be the year where ripping your arm out of the socket is cool.

I of course set the trend this year by contracting Lyme’s Disease over the summer. Literally over ten people I know over the course of three months have been diagnosed with it as well. An even scarier thousands of people world wide came down with it as well! This certainly is no coincidence. I know you people love me, but come on– there’s no reason to risk life and limb to be like me! Simply growing a beard with a the Ben Franklin hair cut will do. 😀

I’ll get right into it– digitalflood Pirate Radio Volume 5 Episode 4 has been done for over 48 hours. I’m listening to it for like the fourth time and it continues to just absolutely grow on me. You will get a chance to hear it come this evening just a bit after midnight. Yes, 12/19/09 is go day for this our latest chapter in Pirate Radio perfection. I plan on working this evening on Volume 5 Episode 5 and the planned release day is 12/21/09 for that show.

This evening I did some web engine upgrades that are making the site perkier than ever. This included updating to the latest WordPress (2.9) and getting the plug in’s up to date as well. This puts digitalflood.com at code version 11.2.0 (Final). I’ve already begun contemplating what I’m going to do for df.com version 12 (ETA first part of 2010). I plan on keeping with WordPress as I absolutely love it. I will most likely move to an upgraded Linux CentOS server though because web traffic just keeps growing faster and faster. I’ve been reviewing several site lay out options in rough format so far, but no serious development work is going yet. I’m still pretty early in the “Concept Stage” of this project. Stay tuned for more updates as I move into actual production on version 12 of the site.

A while back I talked about DJ A.D.D. working on his own web project. He’s finally gone public beta with the site. You can check it out at: http://www.soapboxnation.com/. The site is absolutely addicting and a great concept. Basically it’s a public sound off forum where you can rant and rave about anything you want. We all love to argue (and even love it more when we’re right) so there’s no doubt this will catch on. Head on over. Sign up for an account and get raving. You’ll find me on the site as “digitalflood”.

Finally, congratulations to my friend Little Keith on the birth of Little Landon. Best wishes to you and your family!

Any Press Is Good Press

Empire State Building in NYC - Main off air transmission array for TV.

Empire State Building in NYC - Main local off air transmission array for NY.

Quick note, you’ll see me interviewed in today’s edition of The Times-Herald Record. The story centers around one customer of ours (“ours” being my employer WVT Communications) who seems to be having ongoing issues with her cable TV service. The first time I ever heard about her was on Monday (12/14/09) when she left me a voice mail in the afternoon while I was at PT. I returned her call early yesterday morning (12/15/09), but only got her answering machine. I then got another call later that day from a reporter with the Record requesting an interview. With our CEO’s permission I gave a rundown on the good, the bad, and the ugly about digital RF off air reception including addressing how you deal with as a TV cable provider an overall weaker local channel signal level and a higher susceptibility to co-channel interference. Of course the upside is that same local channel signal provides better picture clarity and audio, as well as, allowing multiple channels to be broadcast within a spectrum space that once only allowed one. I haven’t heard back from Mrs. Watson, but I hope I do– I honestly feel there are other issues at work here aside from the digital off air transition issues as she’s stated to the Record she saw them on all channels (not just the local NY/NJ channels) and that leads me to believe there may be something unique to her house happening that is causing her ongoing issues. Either that or there’s a bigger problem I’m not aware of. She alludes to other customers having the issue as well, but makes no firm identification of who those individuals may be. My hope is one of those other customers (or Mrs. Watson herself) allows WVT to look at their equipment and isolate the issue, which may have nothing to do with those previous digital off air transition issues. Only then can I offer all the effected subscribers resolution and restore their service to proper working order, which of course is my ultimate goal.

Back to the Grind

Virtual DJ 5 Mix Session-- this isn't one of mine though. I mean God that's a crappy playlist!

Virtual DJ 5 Mix Session-- this isn't one of mine though. I mean God that's a crappy playlist!

All my audio production applications are back in order as are my art and web production applications. The short version is I’m 100% back in business and fully recovered from my computer’s main hard drive failure. With that, production will resume on digitalflood Pirate Radio starting tomorrow. Release for “Volume 5 Episode 4” will be this Saturday (12/19/09). I’m also going to try to crank out “Volume 5 Episode 5” by 12/21/09. That will put us back on schedule episode wise. Like most people who’ve run Microsoft Windows XP on the same computer for five plus years and then were forced to format– I’m enjoying my new found speed and system stability. I guess either way it was about time for me to reload Windows. I’ve been running on a patched together operating system for like two years and a bad hard drive for about four months. So all in all it could be worse.

While I was at it, I loaded a whole bunch of new effects into Virtual DJ. So you can expect some fresh new tricks to be rolled out over the next few Pirate Radio mix tape sessions. My latest trick is what I call the flanger solo. You’ll hear it in Episode 4 pretty pronounced, but those of you who listed to Episode 3 from this season will be able to kind of figure out where I’m going. If you have a good subwoofer you’ll also notice my new experiments in what is called sub-bass. My goal is to set off the air bag in your car. I’m almost there.
