Classic DF – 12/13/99

Dec. 13, 1999: DF News– Got a brand new drum machine/sequencer, Boss DR-202, which I’m going to start employing into my music schemes. I chose the 202 for its excellent sound quality and its compatibility with my software. I think it is an excellent choice and I tried it out at the store first. I was more then impressed. You can sequence an entire rythm section on the machine. Needless to say I’m very happy. We’ve started making Christmas and New Year’s plans. It’s going to be a very busy holiday season this year and hopefully everything will go well. I love Christmas. It’s my favorite holiday of the year and I always look forward to it. The flAnnel-fAm is going to start decorating this week. I love it when the house is all trimmed for the holidays. That is when it truly feels like home, when everyone comes together to celebrate. I’m also looking forward to the New Year and finding out what is and is not Y2k compliant. I hoping my 202 is… LOL.

Dec. 14, 1999: DF News– I’ve settled my differences with Marlin and he apologized to Melissa and I. I accepted. End of story. Red Raven will be returning as a manager to his home store. Rock is back and he has posted his latest lyrics. Sexiestar has moved into her new house. Mermaid is considering his latest video card purchase. I’m going to be posting the revamped DF web page somewhere short of Dec. 29th. Also, you should see new songs posted somewhere during that time. World NewsCharles Schultz in light of his cancer diagnosis is retiring his Peanuts cartoon by mid-January. Cuban Nationals are demanding deportation to Cuba and won’t take no for answer… they got hostages. Can dead children attend school? They can if you live in New York. A blood transfusion has cured a boy of sickle cell anemia, a big step towards eradicating the disease. The U.S. government is begging hackers not to cause any havoc during the Y2K roll over as they’ll have enough problems to deal with, um… do they think hackers care? Much as I suspected when I passed through a interrogation checkpoint in Warwick, a fatal crash was the result of some idiot(s) in the area removing several stop signs… people are such assholes. MTV will be airing a NIN live concert Dec. 21st followed by a Trent interview. Check out Suckdot news, a great spoof of Slashdot. Media Fusion has patented high speed Internet access via power lines and we’re talking one gigabyte per second speeds! SkyDSL will begin beaming 4Mbs streams via satellite in France. By pulling down the Babylonian Virus homepage the virus is dead… hopefully no one will re-post the site. CERT is saying that ssH secure shell is not hack proof… no REALLY! Any predictions for Y2K? I’ve been wondering what the popular opinion about what’s going to happen is. E-mail with your predictions. And as always… Mel I luv u 🙂

Classic DF – 12/11/99

Dec. 11, 1999: Having never shot anyone, personally, I can’t be held accountable for every Industrial band’s point of view, but I doubt very many of them support random shootings. After all it would surely be depressing if you sat down to diner and a drive-by occurred. I mean if you condone that drive-by how can you report it to the police without feeling guilty about “selling out”? Likewise, I don’t think that rock stars walk around the house in leather pants and painted face. In the end, I guess it’s all an act. In Shakespeare’s time theater was often associated with thievery as most actors were seen as low lives. Hollywood changed all that and somewhere along the line rock stars with their shaking hips and decadent music became the new antichrist. By the 1990’s Michael Bolton had shot the final blow to rock rebellion with his cool contemporary adult rock styling. Now, under attack are the new fringe of society… those who wish to be on the outset of society. Of course, no one is really on the outset of society since civilization as we know it is merely comprised of varied stratum of people. The latest trend for those who wish to be outside is the vary their exterior visage via “ugly” pretty decorations such as piercing, tattoos, and odd clothing. The old motto of: show the world your inside through the outside has become our late millennium battle cry. Companies have responded by producing mass marketed “personal” clothing. By wearing Transformers(c) tee shirts and Porn Star(c) hats we somehow believe we are separating ourselves from the crowd. With our baggy pants and hax0r l337 talk we think that we have separated ourselves from the pack, when in reality we couldn’t be further herded in with it. Basically the Gap(c) has fooled us into thinking that our exteriors are genuinely individual when the people down the street have the same clothes in their closet. In the end our need to be different has fueled the greedy design industry. So as our century closes out maybe the top ten stories of the decade aren’t the boy bands or riots, but our self centered need to be the one that sticks out in a crowd. Perhaps, we have forgotten that the only way to do this is to be our own person. It is our own personality not just clothing that makes us special. We must celebrate our physical differences such as how freckles fall in different places or the little things that make us special not what tag is on our butt. In the end everyone is beautiful in their own way. Or if that is all to hard for you, just shop where no one does anymore… K-mart(c) has some great clothing that no one ever purchases. 🙂

Dec. 7, 1999: I promised Daemon Immoratlis I’d make fun of Marlin to cheer him up (poor Immy is still sick), so… he’s a dork. On to the news! For those of you who think it is only Midwestern kids who shoot up schools, Holland is having the same problem now too. Cuba claims that the US is holding a child found floating in the Atlantic Ocean hostage and they demand we send him back… okay if you say so 🙂 The Russians are still trying to take over Chechena (didn’t they learn anything about Vietnam from us?). Newflash: Teens who drink and use drugs are more likely to have sex… obviously the people who take these polls never belonged to a frat or else this would be common sense. The Babylonian virus is out, chatters beware! Microsoft isn’t the only one in trouble for antitrust violation, Apple of Japan has been brought up on monopoly charges. People who fear Echelon… relax, the NSA says they’d never use it on a US citizen (ummmm…). IBM wants to build a machine to figure out protein structures; sounds peachy. NIN just finished their new video for “Into the Void”. A court ruling says that Providers can’t be held for volatile content. Lego has been declared the toy of the century, ohhhh! The IE5.5 Beta is now out, download here. As far as DF’s revamped web page I’ve been playing with several formats and even showed one to Rock… he seemed okay with it (but it wasn’t like he did a jump for joy or anything). Look for the new Y2K compatible (sort of) DF2K to premiere at the end of December (coincidentally in time for the Year 2000 ohhhh:) In the mean time to keep the natives quiet I’ve removed the status bar Java crawler.

Dec. 6, 1999: Without inciting more of a riot then it is worth, Marlin’s Place named me one of two “Dimwits” of the year. Of course, as is typical response, he took it down after a while. However, I am flattered by the award and take to heart to know that I was described by Marlin that what, “…(he) didn’t know however, is that (he) had just tossed a road flare onto a puddle of gasoline”. I stand by the fact that DigitalFl00d may be the last so called “news” pages to keep its posts up. Yes, I stand by my word and I never delete an entry. For as fanatical as it may sound I really believe what I say here. So proudly I stand by my co-celebrant (okay, maybe not proudly… never the less) Korpios as a Dimwit. Blind to the truth (or at least too firm in my position for Marlin’s liking). Either way Melissa‘s got my back and well… that’s all that matters. For a wife is just not “your woman”, she is your compatriot and companion. The one you trust with everything. Your one true love. A couple days ago while driving somewhere in my “pinto” (it’s a ZX2 damn it… you know the car that beat several family sedan in acceleration!). That stupid “Sun Screen” song come on 92.3FM K-rock NY’s Solid State program. I kept hearing the line, “If your life is miserable… this is as good as it gets”. Wow, and they say Marilyn Manson is nihilist! What a depressing load of crap. I’ve learned one lesson in life: Stick by your guns. If some one thinks your wrong and every one else thinks your right. Hell, if you just darn well know your right… stick with it. As soon as I started believing in myself that is when things turned around and contrary to popular songs– life got better. Respect is only gained by others when you respect yourself first. I truly believe that good karma starts from within and works its way out. Who knows? Maybe one day you too can live as happily as I do… or at least get a Dimwit of the Year award 🙂
