Cats - The Other White Meat

Cats - The Other White Meat

The counsel representing the US National Pork Board has served our Merchandise Shop producer CafePress with a cease and desist order for all our merchandise featuring the reference to “the other white meat”. As such, it looks like we will no longer be able to offer our “Cats: The Other White Meat” logo on printed clothing (told you to smoke them while you got them, but did you listen– no). This is disappointing considering my personal feeling is the logo is well within the domain of satire and fair usage, but it is what is.

Either, way it comes just in time as we’re about to refresh the df.com Merchandise Shop for the holidays over the course of the next 48 hours. Look for that soon enough featuring new df.com art and branded items.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone once again and I hope you get to enjoy your time with your friends and family.

Remember, just a little over 24 hours until Pirate Radio starts again!

DF Pirate Vol. 5 Ep. 2 Is Ready

Happy Thanksgiving from the Year 1900!

Happy Thanksgiving from the Year 1900!

As I write this post, I am listening to the final mixed version of “digitalflood Pirate Radio Volume 5 Episode 2” starring myself and my special guest co-host Reverend Damian Baker. It sounds absolutely fabulous and I’m absolutely stoked to get his one to you. I will salivate your palette a little and let you know this episode is a double size one hour and forty two minutes in total length. Yes, we’re talking over an hour and half of Pirate Radio goodness. The art work for the episode (which prior viewers know every episode gets a graphic) is also done. We’re absolutely 100% ready for a 11/28/09 release. This is happening without a doubt at this point.

I’m also happy to report that I believe I’ve lined up a guest for “Vol. 5 Episode 3”. We should be recording this Saturday and if it all goes right I’ll let you know.

Production this year was done a little different. Late in Volume 4 we changed how we recorded the episodes to speed recording up for the guests and to also make the final product more polished. I think you’ll notice the difference.

Finally, tomorrow in Warwick, NY we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving Eve and the return of Pirate Radio around the various bars/pubs in the Village of Warwick, NY. We should be starting the party at The Blarney Station around 7:30 pm. If you’re in the area be sure to be on the watch out for us and to take the time to grab a pint with us.

If I don’t get a chance to talk to you in between now and Thanksgiving I want to be sure to wish all my viewers, as well as, friends and family a wonderful Thanksgiving. We really do appreciate all your patience and thank you for sticking with us through all the ups and downs. We are truly thankful for our friends, family, and fans. Your are nothing short of wonderful. Be safe and enjoy the holiday.

Running On Schedule

Last night Reverend Baker and I recorded “Vol. 5 Episode 2” of digitalflood Pirate Radio. I’ll now be taking those audio sessions into post-production and mixing the final show over the course of the next 72 hours. We’re 100% right on schedule for the 11/28/09 release of this episode of Pirate Radio. I’m pretty stoked. Things went exceptionally well despite me dislocating my left shoulder just before recording was to begin. That’s a long story and one I’ll get to later in the week during my normal shoulder update, but it looks like my other shoulder (the one that wasn’t operated on) is wearing away quickly under the added burden of being my primary arm. It’s back in the socket albeit sore. I’m hoping (and it seems to hold true thus far) that my right arm will continue to improve and be able to slowly, but surely alleviate the burden being placed on my non-dominate hand and arm. Back to Pirate Radio though, like I said things went swimmingly and I cannot wait until you hear how this one sounds. It’s absolutely hilarious and I’m sure if you’ve enjoyed our past work you’ll love this one as well.

I have to admit it was strange not having M’Weezy around during the session (as you’ll hear, she’s rather busy in college right now); but all things said if I had to start the season one man down there’s no one who could better handle that added pressure than Reverend Baker. Again, it’s absolutely hilarious and the music selection is going to completely blow you mind.

Locked & Loaded

Green light means go!

Green light means go!

The multimedia audio production applications are all updated and confirmed functional. The workstation is prepped. We are a go for recording to begin this evening on the first new digitalflood Pirate Radio in the last ten months. Reverend Baker will be here at my house in less than seven hours. It all happens from there. I plan on following up on Vol. 5 Episode 2 with at least two mix sessions, which judging from the very frequent plays we get on them are extremely popular with you the viewer. Since October 5, 2009 (the launch of df.com version 11) the following Pirate Radio shows form our top five by listens/downloads:

  1. “The Milwaukee’s Best Session (Vol. 4 Ep. 1)”
  2. “Fight Piracy With Piracy (Vol. 1 Ep. 5)”
  3. “The Palindrome Mix (Vol. 1 Ep. 4)”
  4. The Seance Sessions (Vol. 4 Ep. 3)”
  5. “Fitty Brap @ The Disco! (Vol. 2 Ep. 7)”

Feel free to familiarize yourself with those gems if you have not already and if you have– give them a listen again. You never know what you’ll find hidden in the background of a conversation or a sample that you say “Hey, I know where that’s from”.

My plan for this year is to up the ante on both our production value and overall presentation. You’ll notice improvements on audio quality and overall content. As always, we’ll be hitting you with the hardest beats and the most off the wall humor possible. All in the name of entertainment for you the viewer/listener.

Thank you as always for taking the ride with us. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do making it.

Self Induced Apocaplypse

That's a Persian or a Ragdoll right there!

That's a Persian or a Ragdoll right there!

You would may have checked your Mayan calendar earlier today thinking it might have been 2012. Specifically if you tried to visit df.com between 3 pm EST and 7 pm EST this afternoon. During the course of setting up the new tagged posts feature on df.com, I managed to severely upset my server and proceed to crash it therein taking down df.com for some four hours. I was able to boot the server remotely, but because I hadn’t done that in awhile it ran scan disk and needed some disk errors cleared, which meant I had to physically go to work to actually manually finish the reboot process.

Once I was able to do that things were righted and then I was able over the course of the last hour able to finish tagging up all 247 plus entries on record to date. You’ll notice the “DF.com Hot Topics” box in the left hand menu. The way a tag cloud works (that’s the technical nerd name for that little doodad) is the bigger the font the more it gets read. All you need to do is click on that topic and all the posts that share that tag will come up. Hypothetically those posts are a “hot” thread, but opinions may vary. Let me know what you think of this neat little new feature.

I’ve been getting blitzed with so many hits lately. Couple that with a noticeable increase of spam emails and I’ve noticed page load times slowly creeping up. To temporarily fix the issue (and overall avoid having to deploy a new server) I’ve offloaded email to another server more apt to handle such a task. This will over the course of the next 48 hours significantly improve the situation and bring things back in order. I’m noticing shorter load time improvements already, which is good news for you and me. Yay us!

I came across a rather amusing “Twilight” parody that has landed on YouTube just in time for the “New Moon” release that apparently happened yesterday evening (or so I assume based on the thousand Facebook posts this morning about it and how “wonderful” it is… *gag*).

If you’re as confused as me about the whole Emo gender confused vampire thing as I am then I’m sure you’ll get as good a chuckle out of it as I did. I’ve never been able to sit through “Twilight” or even get through a paragraph of one of the books. It all seems so Harper-Collins dirty novel cheesy to me. I fail to comprehend how making a relationship complex by not only being exceptionally melodramatic, but an outright undead damned soul can be sexy. Alas, I am not woman so you neither hear me roar nor will you have me understand undead fetishes. I think I’m better off either way.

The aforementioned video has been immortalized in the df.com Video channel on YouTube. I also added a few other miscellaneous music videos to the channel as well. Be sure to check those out too.

Finally, I leave you with another Dan web gem. Today he told me about the wondrous “Cats For Gold” program. If there’s something here at df.com we’ve always had trouble with it is too much gold jewelry lying around and just not enough cats. I mean we’re pirates after all and what do pirates have lots of? Gold of course! ARRR! Well, we’re in luck. The Cats For Gold program promises us 25% more cats for our gold than the leading competitors’ programs.  The wife may be mad at me, but with a tabby on the way sleeping outside in sub-freezing temperatures won’t quite feel as bad!
